What CD Player would you like to see tested?

I would like the very first cd player tested.

And to come soon:
  • Onkyo DX-7355
  • TASCAM CD-200
  • EMT 982
...getting even mor exited as yesterday I couldn't resist to buy cheap a (not heavily) used Onkyo DX-7355 from almost just around the corner.

It was an interesting buying experience for me: The very friendly seller is a young man (at least compared with my age) who told me that he is selling his HiFi (Onkyo receiver & CDP, small JBL w/ subwoofer speakers), that he originally inhereted from his uncle. Takes too much space he told me, wasn't listening a lot to CDs, we removed a forgotten CD with '20 Ballermann Hits' still in the player. And his JBL bluetooth boombox is way more convenient and sounds great as well he said. So we were both happy in the end - I think: he got rid of stuff & I have just another CDP in my collection now...:p

And now I have both the TASCAM and the Onkyo as transports in my Stax Earspeaker system, waiting (but still patiently!) for your tests, Flo!

EDIT, just forgot to mention: ASR is a fantastic forum of its own kind! All this interesting discussions and lots of objective information (that goes also to you, Flo @NTTY !) made me to donate to support ASR a few days ago, I encourage everybody to keep this great forum alive & become a Forum Donor as well!
Keep on truckin' @amirm et al !
;)

Nice, I like it when there’s a story behind a purchase. The Onkyo 7355 I bought online should reach me in 2 days, says the post office. So it will be the first one to get reviewed.
Thanks for your comments and I must concur with your POV about ASR ;)

Found this about the Arcam 9,looks perfectly good 26 years after it came out to my very uneducated eyes
What do the experts think?
I have the more expensive dressed-up FMJ CD23. As one would expect, I've never had an audible problem with it. It's boxed up in the attic as my systems have universal disc players with digital connections, making it redundant.

I’ve been searching for one of these, but quite unobtainable now

SMSL PL150 - they updated the website, now says available for purchase June 23rd

The second hand market is flooded with DVD and Blu-ray players at dirt cheap prices. Some may be acceptable as a transport only. It looks like Sony's, last best player, the UBP-X800M2 is slowly being phased out, at least the Sony website continues to show item is not available. That one might be a good one to test if you could rig up an HDMI set up.

Hello everyone,

I’ve been testing CD players for some time now, and I was wondering what’s next in the list.

So far, I tested the below:

And to come soon:
  • Onkyo DX-7355
  • TASCAM CD-200
  • EMT 982

With all the above, I basically tested and got to know/measure what I wanted, especially about ancient DACs (in a CD player).

So the question to you is: Which one would you like to see reviewed next?

Of course, I don’t have the budget to satisfy everyone’s needs, but if I can find, at a reasonable price, a CD player of your interest, I’ll go for it.

Thank you and enjoy the WE!
Hi,
It would be nice if you could test the Sony CDP XA50 ES some day:)
I have that beast for 27 or 28 years now, still going strong, although i now use it only as transport, (not that it sounds any different when i connect via Analogue) but anyways, whether i use it's internal DAC or the one in the Eversolo Z8, it all sounds great, just kinda wonder how it measured(s)

Greetings

One of the Arcam cd players with the dcs ring dac would be nice to see measured,I’ve still got my alpha 9,must get it fixed,I actually felt like a broken audiophile when I couldn’t hear any difference between that and my alpha 7se 25 years ago,I was just obviously well ahead of the curve tho
I was able to acquire an CD92 with the ring DAC card recently. It has some power supply issues common to Arcam gear of this era, but it works and I was able to take some preliminary measurements. I was hoping to get it on the bench and see what's going on before publishing anything. However, it's going to take a while and, if there's interest, I'm happy post my first round of measurements. (Short story: very good, not great.)

Also picked up and tested a vintage Panasonic MASH portable. Again, need to find some free time to post the results. Surprising no one, there were compromises required in building very small, relatively energy efficient CD players that must survive bumps and bruises.

To Add,

i just wonder how it measures up to the Denon CDP 3560 (If at all!) still my "Dream" CD player which at that time i definitely couldn't afford:(

I’d love to see the measurements, think I’m going to get my one fixed

I measured the EMT 982, and now I need to find time to report the results. But I kind of felt in love with this unusual CD player.

Have a look at this very busy inside (the AD1891J 20bits ASRC was an option, which this player got):

And we get the star Philips CDM9-Pro, swing-arm all metal legend, as a cherry on the cake:

The way it is put in motion in this player is equally unique. The review will be epic.

I can't thanks @Salt enough for having allowed me (and us?) to deep dive into this very unique CD player ;)
