This one was a bit disconcerting, so double checking here, just to help me form a coherent take on this.

OK, granted it is an attempt to argue by authority, offered as "proof" that the UK scientific community recognized the validity of MQA. Needed to have a think about that. Because, well, The Royal Academy of Engineering seems like a very legit organization and I humbly accept that I am just a nobody on the internet.
Now, after doing some research, have come to the conclusion that the RAE is more akin to a trade group - indeed they recognize industry advances and a lot of what I read tells me they are indeed working towards the promotion of engineering and science. Other recipients seem very deserving of recognition.
But given that, I don't think it is a research organization. Peer review, etc is not in their purview. It is, a trade group dedicated to the promotion of the trade, engineering. There is no doubt the design and development of audio devices is an engineering concern (not a subjective art! but that is another discussion!). BS seems to be successful in the industry, with a few years under his belt and, from looking at the audio trade magazines, press, etc (and we know how those are), he seems to be successful and the owner of a positive reputation, given that the same trade press seem to share his philosophy. THAT was the nature of the award, I believe. His on words from
