My kitchen or my listening room.
The local skeptics community has asked me to give a talk on "audiophile stuff", prompted by my putting a pointer to the "cable burner" into their group page on facecrook.

So, if you're so minded, how about you send me a link (Put it in this thread, perhaps) pointing me to your favorite slice of bologna?

The Green Paint used on the edges of CDs to improve sound:

How about audiophile stuff that is objectively counterproductive - i.e. worsens the sound, rather than merely do nothing for too much money? Examples: external clocks for DAC's, the KillerDAC (it uses an ancient DAC chip with a fancy output stage), all analog sources, misguided use of room treatments, etc.

Well that article has a hell of a cliffhanger. Did the author ever find out what mysterious phenomena enabled all these treatments, including Armor All, to improve the audio from CDs? What have I been missing these decades listening to naked CDs?

With your knowledge and experience, spending 30 minutes in the DAC and GENERAL forums on Audiokarma could be a more productive approach.

Not gonna happen. Those kinds of sites just throw me out instantly.

Well, if you literally want something round, you could sink your teeth into these footers: https://www.stillpoints.us/product-category/ultra/

They even have objective specs for this:
Ultra-Base-Main-1024x1024.jpg

"Ultra Base
$83.00 – $332.00

The Ultra Base should be used in every configuration with every Stillpoint unless the Stillpoint is used in a Component Stand or ESS rack. The Ultra Base will contribute a 20% to 25% increase in performance every time. Available in silver or black."

Of course you need four of them for each piece of electronics. I know people who buy a ton of them to dress all of their gear. And even "upgrade" from version to version. A veil is always lifted, assuming you have the right ears and a system with enough resolution!

Start here:

Good luck! You’ll need it ;)
