In 60s Britain, Lsd was the abbreviation for pounds, shillings and pence.
It was actually from the Latin, librae, solidi and denarii and under this system, there were 12 pence in a shilling and 20 shillings, or 240 pence, in a pound.
Thankfully the UK went decimal when I was very young, but you'd still occasionally see things with the price written as Lsd.
I seem to remember replying to a similar comment from you re: the <sarcasm> "fabulous" </sarcasm> English measurement system a few months ago!
Same answer - you believe is better because you are just used to it. It's like those people that believe headphones break in. Not really, you just get used to the sound signature.
(Not that I am singling you out - you are easy to remember because you use what I believe is your actual likeness in your avatar)
Fathoms are quite nice. I used to like using fathoms.
Knots are a schmerz in the derriere.
But the Brits and their stones. Hahahahahahahahahaaaaa. What's a stone? It's seventeen and three quarter pounds.
Bushels sound great, although I don't know what they are. Volume? Weight? Big or small?
I'd love to be able to go to the feed shop and ask for a bushel of rabbit food, please.
A box of vegetables is actually 1 and 1/9th of a bushel. The 1/9th makes up for the heep when in a bushel basket.
Would need some surgery for this in reality

About one cubit diameter.
They're for hiding your light under !. This discussion reminds me of a mental arithmetic question my dad used to ask us as children ''if a brick weighs 7 pounds and half a brick, what is the weight of a brick and a half?''. He wasn't impressed when we came up with all sorts of answers but the right one.Bushels sound great, although I don't know what they are. Volume? Weight? Big or small?
