In 60s Britain, Lsd was the abbreviation for pounds, shillings and pence.

It was actually from the Latin, librae, solidi and denarii and under this system, there were 12 pence in a shilling and 20 shillings, or 240 pence, in a pound.

Thankfully the UK went decimal when I was very young, but you'd still occasionally see things with the price written as Lsd.

I seem to remember replying to a similar comment from you re: the <sarcasm> "fabulous" </sarcasm> English measurement system a few months ago!

Same answer - you believe is better because you are just used to it. It's like those people that believe headphones break in. Not really, you just get used to the sound signature.

Bigger country. Kilometers are too small. We need miles. Bigger temperature ranges. Fahrenheit makes it easier to know if going outside will lead to death, major discomfort, minor discomfort, etc. Celsius numbers are too close together. Centimeters are too small for measuring rooms. Meters are too big. Using feet is just right.

That is correct. I'm just an old country boy from Oklahoma. Not much hair left.

They're for hiding your light under !. This discussion reminds me of a mental arithmetic question my dad used to ask us as children ''if a brick weighs 7 pounds and half a brick, what is the weight of a brick and a half?''. He wasn't impressed when we came up with all sorts of answers but the right one.
