This reminds me of a customer conversation in which the small discount he was offered was criticized. I then asked the customer how much of a discount he wanted; after all, the original price could be adjusted as desired (for "feel-good-purposes"). After initial grumbling, he bought it... without any further discount.
Therefore, even if it doesn't fit the title of the thread: Please install the Keepa app on Black Friday, compare prices and never make impulse purchases.
The amount of rubbish on offer is now so huge that I no longer look at Black Friday offers at all but only buy what was already on my wish list.

The past few years I've noticed Target marking down toys during the holiday by a few cents just to be able to put a sign on it saying it was on sale.
A furniture store near us had a couch for $1600 a couple months ago. Now they are having a going out of business sale and the couch is $1800.
It is fun checking Amazon prices on camelcamelcamel, often right before their sales is when the price spikes so they can put that as the 'regular' price.

Just a random thought: I don't get this current "mainstream" babble. What is not mainstream media today? Heck, even the bible is "mainstream". I guess I'll stick with the Flying Spaghetti Monster... Just kidding...

Many, many years ago -- we needed a new charcoal grille. After a decade or more of making do with cheap generics, I decided to buy a regular old Weber kettle grille*. One Saturday, when Mrs. H was busy with something else, our two (then quite young) kids and I went to Sears to look at grilles. I espied the base-level Weber 22-inch grille with a tag saying SALE. Take my money! was probably my implicit response.
One of the kids noted that the regular price was also marked on the SALE tag. The regular price was (let's say) $49.96. The grille was on sale for (again, let's say) $49.95.
The sale price had been reduced by one cent.
I bought the grille.
On the bright side, we still have it, I still keep it outside 24/7/365, and it's still serviceable -- although some of its constituent parts (handles, charcoal grate, and the ash sweeper 'blades') have been replaced over the decades.
Heck, even at full price, I'd have felt it was a good deal!
photo taken in the summer of 2021 that happens to show it in situ in front of our little shed.
Mind you, our older child has degrees in economics from Georgetown and Oxford, and the younger one has a PhD in mathematics from University of Virginia.
... and at our house, we don't talk about my abilities with numbers.
