You probably know there's truth to that!
Organisms had to evolve all sorts of mechanisms (e.g., superoxide dismutase) to cope with the, umm, oxidizing power of oxygen. Danged trees! They've been out to get us all this time. They just look all beautiful and stately and stuff...

Prefer to call it hydrogen hydroxide. Thus explaining why it has a pH of 7.0
