Because a lot of them seem to think they are above the law... or simply have never heard of it.

Although, lately I've seen a lot Tesla drivers trying to one-up them. There must be something about low speed torque that really gets the god complex going

In Australia, it's Volvo drivers, but for a different reason. BMW drivers never indicate and think they are above the law. Volvo drivers are somehow both overcautious and oblivious. These are the guys who creep along 20km/h below the speed limit and run stop signs because they didn't see it. A typical Volvo driver over here is an ancient geriatrician who can barely see.

I must be a disrespectable beamer (we call it bimma or b-m actually) driver then, because i still use them. But it's handy that the reputation of the brand clears the road for me on the highway, and all other drivers move to the right lane, giving me a free road...

Not so much replying to you as continuing the conversation…

Most drivers are absolute sh!t at doing anything respectable on the road. It doesn’t matter what make they drive.
There sometimes seems a correlation between increased cost of vehicle and abject ineptitude. But then you find yourself behind some Prius driving 5-10 below the limit….

Doesn’t matter.

Isolate us in our own little boxes of doom, crank up the tunes, forget we are all actually humans and start competing with the other faceless doom boxes to try and get to your destination 1/5 of a second before the other guy does.
