Hello,

I've been reading the forums for months trying to find the perfect speaker. I'm half Finnish so Genelec seems like a natural fit. I was tempted by the KH80 but the 4" size might be too small long term. I thought I may need the 8340A 6.5" but a post said it's bigger, louder 8030C, so now the 8030C seems like the perfect monitor. The only help I need is with what to mount them on. My desk is too small with 2 27" monitors and a floor stand will eliminate desk vibrations and sound reflecting off the desk. I don't like the twist-lock compression style stand from Genelec so I am looking for alternatives. I don't mind spending money as long as there is a benefit so please provide some options.

Thanks!

From the 8030C manual:

On the base of the loudspeaker is a 3/8” UNC threaded hole compatible with a standard microphone stand.

You can use a stable microphone stand. Check K&M (König & Mayer), they have a very large selection. I use two short ones to lift my 8020a some 30 cm higher on the desktop.

Is directly to a mic stand the best way? Is an IsoAcoustics isolation stand with a base necessary for 8030C?

I can say that those small mic stands I use have a round foot with a thick and soft rubber underneath and I didn't observe any problems with vibrations on my desk. Since you want floor stands I see no issues using a mic stand.

[Sorry OT, but] heh? how usual is that? .....Is it a sort of standard thing with microphones and maybe cameras?

Well, camera tripods usually use 3/8" for mounting the head, and mic stands use it for mounting arms or mic holders. The Genelecs are the only speakers I know to use the same connection type. Standard for mounting PA speakers on tripods are (I think) 1.5" holes in the speaker (sometimes 1") to be set on similar sized tripod sticks.

Thanks for the info. I'll try the mic stand route and if I need anything more, I can buy the thread-on-base and attach the rest
