I’ve been running a pair of JBL Studio 580’s for over a year. It’s probably the longest I’ve kept a pair of speakers. Needless to say I enjoy them. Below are some pictures of the internals. I’ll spare most of my subjective comments other than looking inside the box and at the components it looks to me like you get a lot for the asking price of $700 per pair.

I didn’t get pics of the 2414H-1 compression drivers. I couldn’t figure out how to pop the horn off to get access.

Comparing the 580 size vs 590 size. I got rid of the 590's. The 580's sounded better to me. The 580's seemed to integrate the sound of the drivers and soundstage better in my room. Also the 590's (in my room) were a little too bass heavy for me.

Comparing size of the 580’s to my old Klipsch RP280F (living room is lively I didn't keep either pair up here long, but the 580's we noticeably less bright in this room)

How's that? You can get these in Europe too. Well at least they don't use electrolytics in the MF and HF secrion.
That said, JBL is dead as a company to me after they shifted their TOTL stuff distribution to Asia. Europe and even the US only got scraps.
4344Mk2 anyone, 4348?

I agree, you get a decent amount of "guts" for the money.

Thanks for showing us the "inside story".

can anyone confirm from the pics if it's a 3rd order xover? If yes, then good value indeed. drivers look "beefy" too and seems there's a good amount of internal bracing.

My modest system with a pair of JBL 530s and 2 10" Monolith subs. I'm surprised by the performance of the JBL speakers. I've owned many others in the past at a higher cost, but these have really captured my attention.

Harman is a South Korean company. The expensive JBL product is probably mostly an Asian thing I imagine. So from that standpoint it probably makes corporate sense. It would surprise me if JBL still makes anything in Northridge, or anywhere in the US, anymore.

Here are technical manuals including crossover schematics for 580 and 590
Good on JBL to add release date to their manuals. So many other manufacturers don't (no sense of history).

Even the regular manual that comes with the JBL studio speakers is like a book. At least 40 pages in size. I didn't pay much attention to the details in it, but I was impressed. Most manufacturers give you a small, fold-out "quick start" guide and that's it!

Well, it's written in about nine languages. :)
Actually, it's only about ten (English) pages......most of which is pictorials.

So, it's good to have the technical manual information posted above, as well.

Dave.

The glory days of JBL are behind us for sure, but at least we can still get our hands on these studio 5 series which harken back to JBL’s past. The studio 5 series are the last speakers engineered by Greg Timbers.

There is the new JBL HDI series, tho.

Looks nice. I'll repeat myself, but thanks JBL for abandoning Europe.
There are some Synthesis dealers in The Netherlands.

I started off with the 590s a few years back with a sale for $900/pr delivered. I added a slightly used set of 530s/520C after that at a good price and then finally added 580s when I found them for $520/pr. Great speakers for the $. I use the 580s as surrounds...but works well in my fairly large room. Wouldn't call any of them bass heavy, but I use subs and cross relatively high, too.
