Latest buy. Tried the Octava Bassa. A very fine choice for its price.

Yes. Around that price, year 2017. Middle one no Malbec though.

dito. Just killed a 0.5 l bottle M. Kleinmann Signature Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) 2011. Winery is Weingut Ökonomierat Johannes Kleinmann driven by the grandson of Johannes Kleinmann. Pic of the bottle follows later, let's have an espresso first and then watching Adele's concert in L.A. on the big screen ... (link may not work outside of Germany).

EDIT: added pic of front and back of the bottle.

Great thread, I love both audio and whine and think those are a great match. Prolly those who are nerdish in audio are nerdish in a whine as well.

This was excellent after 2-3 hours in the decanter and will be better still in another 5-10 years.

That looks something different than the old chilla Cella. You mean it’s a true-to-life varietal, and actually drinkable? I didn’t know.
Yeah, the real deal. Which is still not very expensive. It's our favorite pairing with pizza margherita.

Ridiculously good terroir-driven Riesling. Forge does a slew of micro-cuvees (<350 cases), all vinified the same, but different plots. The variations in flavor put the lie to those who claim terroir is imaginary. Many of the plots are contiguous, yet flavors and aromas are quite distinct.

These sound great. Don't suppose they're widely distributed?

I also drank Riesling last night - multiple liters in fact, across five decades. Too many highlights to cover but a few less-obvious stars made it on the camera roll below.

Likely not. The production for the wines of theirs we have run from 50-350 cases. Worth a trip, though, if you're a Riesling fan- Finger Lakes Rieslings are very much sui generis, and these are among the best we've ever tasted.

Looks like they are in IL after all. Five of them anyway, and at very modest prices. Gonna have to try them.

I've bought loads of Riesling this year but it disappears quicker than anything else so always feels like there's room for more. Highlights have been from the Vom Boden book as well as Source Material offerings. Stein, Lauer, Seehof, Haart, Emrich-Schonleber all have been lights out, and although prices are rising the value is still unbelievable.

Buy. Seriously. You won't regret it.

It's hard to pick a favorite, but maybe, just maybe, the Wagner Caywood. We were surprised at how distinct it was from the next-plot-over Caywood. 2019 was difficult, but they nailed it. 2020s are bigger and riper without losing the minerality I treasure in great Riesling. Sunrise Hill is the biggest and fruitiest, but it's from the next lake over (Cayuga) rather than from Seneca like the other cuvees. Breakneck is more herbal, with a very distinct tinge of tarragon.
