USB trigger Denon AVR X1800H to Marantz MA-700 monoblocks

I am trying to trigger power to two Marantz MA-700 monoblocks from my new Denon X1800H AVR. Amazingly, while this AVR has front pre-amp outs, it has no 3.5mm 12v trigger out to run to the MA700’s trigger in. However, it does apparently supply power to a USB port on the back of the receiver.

Improvising, I purchased a Panamax M8-AV-PRO (with four 12v triggered outlets) and a USB to 3.5 mm male jack converter. I plugged the USB end into the back of the AVR and the 3.5 mm into the Panamax. I then plugged the MA-700s into two of the Panamax triggered outlets.

I powered the Denon on hoping it would then trigger the MA-700s via the Panamax but it did not. However, when I pulled the 3.5 mm jack out of the Panamax, voila, the MA-700s turned on. But as soon as I plugged the jack back in, they triggered off. It’s as if the trigger is working exactly the opposite of how I need it to. The trigger is working, but out of sequence and only if I pull the 3.5 mm jack in and out of the Panamax, which obviously defeats the purpose of remote triggering.

Any advice/thoughts what I am doing wrong here, if anything? Thank you.

Two ideas come to my mind (I use the usb trigger workaround by myself a long time):

usb out has 5v, the trigger works often only with 12v (some to also 5v or 9v). So to make sure the voltage is correct.

Try to not plug in the trigger completely - maybe some isolation ring on the tip is blocking the contact
