Tom Danley’s new ‘Hyperion’

But that's not a high-frequency horn ;)

I'm talking about that tiny horn on the coaxial. That's just no good for pattern control, and it shows in the off-axis measurements.

Yes, I'm already well aware of the limitation of the small horn mounted on the center of the woofer. This is not something I'm personally all that worried about -- I already foresaw fellow audiophiles foaming in the mouth due to the "small" horn size.

With class D amplification being so cheap, hearing loss isn't nearly the barrier it once was
I remember running one of those on-line hearing tests through a system, got to a point where I couldn’t hear anything turned the volume up still nothing but the ( young then) kids ran into the room with their hands over their ears.
Oh to be young again.

Anyone gotten a chance to listen to the ILE3 yet? Are they as wide radiating as they imply? Would like to know how they do vertically as well given how tall it is.

Well the Danley signature range is now available, I don’t have the RRPs ( I have asked) but they are not going to be cheap, at least £60k for the HRE’s I would estimate, you can choose the colour but the finish is ‘polyurea’ which I imagine is the studio splatter finish so not your Lamo metallic orange gloss.
These aren’t going to be an easy sell.

Hmm. £60k is Genelec 8381A territory.
They best be very good indeed.

There are only two "proper" ways to use such big speaker, either flush mounting or free standing, but in this case it should be cardioid and DSP driven to flat out the in room response. 8381 is cardioid (contrary to their mains range, which are made for in wall installation), HRE-1 is not but it also doesn't look like good fit for flush mount, are the amps on the back or separate? It's a weird product more like a domesticated PA speaker than a studio monitor.

They are super speakers, totally without constraint but we’ll look at the photograph that chair is not a miniature.

In the actual production speaker the twin 15” bass drivers have been moved to the front so you could soffit mount, amps/crossover/eq all built in ‘RAM’ I believe.
Keith

Kii 3 for purposes of scale, even though they aren’t the prettiest I would still like to have a pair here,, undoubtedly the best horns I have heard.

That's good decision, the competition then is not 8381 or Geithains, but rather Genelec mains, ATCs etc. Which is smart as none of them offer coaxial in wall full range models, so they play alone. On the other hand no one really sits close to 4kW in wall speakers, so their point source nature may not be that important. They look more civil than 8381s, both ugly but one definitely uglier

I would love a pair.

(There's something of the 2001 A Space Odyssey "monolith" look that I love too... The mrs, probably not so much.)

I believe the ‘signature’ range was a stab primarily at the domestic market, the early renderings ( the HRe was initially called the Hyperion) looked quite smart, but… Danley is primarily live sound aren’t they.

My wife’s only comment was, ‘you haven’t bought those have you’ followed swiftly by ‘when are they coming to collect’, and she has seen a number of ugly speakers here in her time.

Does the person sitting in the seat in between develop a nose-bleed?
When they fist arrived I didn’t immediately set any eq, the bass ( and I know this is a well worn audio chestnut) literally shook the house.

My tack exactly. Introduce the various larger speakers gradually over the years. Well played.

Very pure sound, no horn colouration image was rock solid but you had to stay central, I was only sitting 3 metres away, you could easily sit 30 metres away if you wanted to.
No issue with loudness.

Keith, I am jealous. You appear to have a constant cycle of the worlds finest speakers in continuous rotation...
Plus a partner who puts up with wonderful brutes like the Danleys. Mostly.
Kudos mate!

Holy moly. £60k! Is that for real?

Sorry it is a bit gloomy here, just had to implement a couple of filters as bass is adequate!

Just a quick in room 1/6th smoothing there is no acoustic treatment in this room, 39.5Hz I brought down a bit plenty of output at 20Hz.
Keith
Hi, I'm new to this thread. Is this FR measurement done with applying EQ to the Hyperion?
