Seeking Speaker Recommendations: Large Room ($1K Budget)

.. YEARS since i have had anything but maggies.. I'll keep messing around, but initial impression is that I prefer my maggies. lol :/
I wasn't surprised. Something like this could have been expected with a probability of, say, 50%.
less indirect sound reaching your ears
I had this thought while reading the thread and the proposals of small conventional speakers. BTW I expected a higher Di value than the measured LSR.

How far do you sit and at what volume do you listen ?.

Used kef R3 or R3 meta may get you close to $1k.

Hard to find a low cost hifi speaker to fill up the large room at high spl levels without distorting.

If low levels are ok then Kali IN8-v2, Sierra-1 V2 (needs good amp) should work, both have good horizontal dispersion , so does the kef.

I love my Definitive Technology Demand 17’s! My room is close in dimensions and it works great in here. It is a sealed design so I added a subwoofer for extra bass, but since you have Magnepan’s you probably have one already. There are only a few reviews out there but all are stellar, search them out. My wife isn’t an audiophile but she loves listening to them with me for hours on end. They can play very loud and very low without losing dynamics. Very detailed, neutral and dynamic. They are left and right paired, and I flopped them around and preferred that sound. Adorama has them for under a thousand. https://www.adorama.com/dedemand17bk.html

A pair of used Polk R700 would surely fit in the budget. It also seems like a speaker that would be very easy to find in the US.

Very solid pair of speakers all around. Wide dispersion, very good linearity, and good power handling with low distortion at high-ish SPL.

Also, it seems like adorama definitely sells a pair of D17 left and right for $1k even if they sell a single speaker for $900.

Alas, the sale price is $900 each, the OP's budget is $1000 total.

Good review of the slightly smaller Demand 15s at audioholics: https://www.audioholics.com/tower-speaker-reviews/def-tech-demand-d15/
No, the price is $999 a pair.

Wow, happy to have been wrong, that's a great price!

Could be a nice room for philharmonic Audio ceramic minis. $850/pair.

I feel like the placement of your Magnepan LRS is not ideal. They are spaced way too far apart. The result is expected to be very diffuse or "laid back" sounding.

I understand the rationale because you are trying to widen the sweet spot for the room, but the fact of the matter is that the LRS have a very narrow sweet spot.

Now it may not be ideal for your lifestyle or needs for the room, but I would suggest bringing the speakers closer together toward the center of the room/your listening position.

Otherwise, the Polk R500 is on sale at Amazon in black for your budget (free returns if you have Prime):

Erin placed it in his top 5 under $2500
