The best thing you can do for your health is never touch drugs from BIGPHARMA and believe it or not, I've not swallowed their products since 1989. Before 1989 I used to get sick at least twice a year.
I've never touch a product made with cow milk since 1989 including cheese. Goat milk is OK.
At least three times a week I skip the evening meal to let my stomach rest.
I'm 1, 81m high and my weight is 75kg.
I do not have an insurance for health, same for my wife so what if I get a cancer or alzheimer ? All care for these two diseases are free here.
A visit to a doctor is not expensive either : 25€... less if you go to an hospital : 12€.
Oh you pay for it, nothings free. France having one of the highest socialist based taxing rates in the free world.I do not have an insurance for health, same for my wife so what if I get a cancer or alzheimer ? All care for these two diseases are free here.

Well, you missed the keyword in the post: "bigpharma". Then you know that you are facing a french health subjectivist. You have also big chances that this guy is also an antivax, like 30% of the french population.A sample of 1, maybe 2. Be careful extrapolating your personal opinion to the general population without substantiation. Someone like me might challenge.

Bigfarmer?I'd like to coin a term: how about BigFooda, as well.
Well, in opposition to vaccines, am not aware of scientific studies showing the benefits of McDonald's products on health .I'd like to coin a term: how about BigFooda, as well.
Airplane ready meals and the scent of 3 week old underpants in the air should get you acclimatised.<snip>
I prepare and cook most of my food and consider buying-out a treat(of sorts). Maybe I should do it more and then a nursing home will be less of a shock.
"Then I commended mirth, because a man hath no better thing under the sun, than to eat, and to drink, and to be merry".
I agree that there are many different diets which can improve overall health. Of course, any beneficial effect from a new diet should always be compared with the quality of the old diet. That’s really the problem with all the “bro science” on the internet. There’s lots of folks who eat ****** foods and are metabolically damaged who have now switched to a slightly less ****** diet. Those people think they’ve discovered the fountain of youth. IMO, veganism is the best example of this phenomenon.
Hominids evolved eating fishes and other meats. Homo sapien brains would have never grown to the extent they have without animinal foods. It is close to impossible to maintain a healthy vegan diet without vitamin supplements. Most vegans are mineral deficient and suffer from a variety of mental health problems, if they do it long enough. The brain needs animal fats.
Low cholesterol is not the goal. The brain uses 25% of overall energy and needs cholesterol to function properly. Cholesterol is a key nutrient.
The cholesterol-heart hypothesis has been shot down. It is clear now that heart disease is not caused by too much LDL-P. The cause is most likely oxidized LDL. What causes LDL to oxidize? That’s the question. The answer is likely hyperinsulinemia.
IMO, the foods to be avoided are:
1. Anything sweet; including virtually all fruits
2. Anything containing refined grain products.
3. Soy
4. Any processed vegetable oil (except olive oil and coconut oil)
5. Any liquid calories
6. Any pre-digested or processed starches.
Don’t be afraid to eat lots of natural animal fats and protein. The older you get, the more you need protein to maintain proper muscle mass. Muscle mass closely correlates with longevity.
It is also very important to exercise on a regular basis. High intensity interval training with lots of compound movements is the most effective and efficient type of exercise. IMO, using repetitive motion machines in the gym is ineffective.
Just skimmed through this thread. My vote goes for listening to recognized health authorities, historical experience and common sense. As far as I know some of the known historical population groups who consistently have lived the longest have been vegetarian, vegan, almost-vegetarian or pesco-vegetarian - the adventists and the pre-war cohorts at Okinawa, for example. Correlational studies also show that vegetarians or people who eat mainly plant-based on average have better health outcomes than the general population. While the jury may still be out on what the real causal mechanisms behind this actually are, and whether one can get equally good health outcomes with diets based on much animal protein, and what the best short-term diets for losing weight consist of, there is no doubt that people on plant-based diets usually do just fine.
We also know that the human population as a whole will definitely not "do just fine" if we keep on using enormous areas of land for producing meat, instead of planting trees on those areas, which will help suck out C02 from the atmosphere. https://www.ipcc.ch/report/srccl/
As far as I'm concerned, it's an easy choice.
A human being needs to eat meat - not a lot of meat - to be healthy ... I know, I know, I know... being vegetarian seems a good choice. I've known some vegetarians that are under the vegetables today.
The first wife of Paul Mc Cartney was a truly vegetarian and she died and she was young. Steve Jobs thought that it was a good idea to eat apples, lots of apples.
People who are living the longest don't eat a lot.
Losing weight is easy, just skip dinner until you're happy with your new weight.
