My friend just got an RSL speedwoofer with the wifi adapter . He is Using it with his yamaha A-S501.

We noticed something bizarre. As we turned the volume louder on the receiver, initially the sub would get louder, but at about 50% volume the sub stopped getting louder and only the towers increased. You could visually see the excursion not increasing as well. However, if you turned the sub gain up it would get much louder distortion free.

Any ideas?

From the manual for the RSL Speedwoofer 10S Manual

Was it purchased new or used?

How is the Yamaha connected to the Sub?

Volume - Controls the volume of bass output. During initial setup with your A/V receiver, we recommend that you set the volume control somewhere around the 12 o'clock position. That will allow maximum flexibility if you need to perform fine adjustments with the volume control at a later time. If you find that you have to turn the volume control up too high or down too low, refer to the setup in your A/V receiver to adjust the output volume to the sub woofer.

Nothing weird at all. If the sub us set to half volume it’s reached it’s max at that setting. Simply set higher.

New sub

I don't see any way to adjust the sub output volume receiver side

Plan to test directly connected this weekend.
