Does this card support any true multichannel home theater standard or is it limited to extracting quasi-multichannel from stereo with Dolby Home Theater v4?

Don't remember as I don't use the software that comes with it. But many media players like JRiver and Media Player Classic can do the decoding to PCM and upmixing/downmixing anyway. The Asus software by itself is quite useless because it can't perform proper multi-channel (bass management) DSP system integration. I do all the DSP (time delay, xo EQ and other convolution stuff) in JRiver (purchased). You can probably do the same or get similar results with other free options like Equalizer APO. Or maybe use an external AVR via the PC to HDMI if you have one around.

Any standalone desktop DAC that can't put out 2V RMS at line out is inexcusable in 2020s, regardless of price.
