Bonnie Raitt - Dig In Deep 2016, HDTracks 24/96 flac
Very good tunes, a little more of a rocker than the bluesy Nick of Time days.
Album sounds good, the highs are very clean and detailed along with a very solid bass. Vocals are clean sounding for a modern production. Supposed to have used three different mikes at the same time and then used different blends to get the desired sound, I don't hear it?
Can't really comment on soundstage as I listened the first couple spins on my Senn HD-650 cans.
BUT sadly this is one of the most heavily compressed productions I've ever heard, all loud all the time! :( Tmeter measures DR7
I read a interview in April's Stereophile today that they were doing a "audiophile" release, she was excited that audiophiles would be interested in her music. I think they may have done a different master for the LP, HDA customers aren't audiophiles I guess. This sh-tt is beginning to really piss me off. 1989 Nick of Time CD DR14 1991 Luck of the Draw CD DR13
If you want the download I got a 20% discount using this code HDSURVEY20 Code is supposed to be good till the end of the month for anything at HDTracks. If it isn't accepted the first entry, try it a second time, that's how it worked for me.

Thanks for the heads up on the fidelity Sal. Big shame that whoever created the stereo high-resolution master applied loudness compression at that stage rather than CD mastering.

Bob, had no idea she was that old!

I started playing the DVDA's from the Doors Perception box set in seq yesterday. Both 2ch and then 5.1. Haven't done that in awhile.

I'm in a Floyd mood tonight startin with my personal favorite,
Pink Floyd - Meddle MFSL 518
"One of these days I'm gonna cut you into little pieces" :D
Next will be the IMHO underappreciated
Pink Floyd - The Final Cut, original CBS CK 38243 release.

Recently heard the 518 release, easily the best Meddle I've heard to date, in any format. I do not have an orig LP for comparison.

As for the Final Cut, many vinyl copies inc. an original, also have the 38243 CD and recently obtained a copy of the so called "flat-transfer" 35DP-53 Japan 4 Japan CD pressing. Not had a chance to hear it yet, although early measurements favor the 35dp version by a country mile, it being a pre-emphasis flagged CD, those numbers may prove deceitful. I don't "think" they share the same mix/master, but ...

Yep I love the sound of the 518 UD1 that I have.. Makes me a happy camper.
Let me know what you think of the DP, if it's really a major winner I'll go on the hunt.
Welcome to ASR!

Hi Sal1950 ... I very much enjoy your detailed postings, very informative ...

by chance, have you heard the "two track" (35dp-4) version of WYWH? My CDP absolutely loves reading this particular version. So much so, I had to invite friends over for a listen just to confirm I wasn't going goo-goo-ga-ga based on some other sonic deviation ... Gilmours guitar(s)/fret work/playing sounds so much more real/alive. The original 46035-2/LC1305, often sited as the preferred CD version by many, although quite good, sounds a little muffled, dark and boosted (smile face eq) in my system compared to the sunnier 2-track.

Thanks for the kind words. I don't have the technical chops to contribute much to the other headers here, but I read and learn. I've tried to contribute back to Amirs new site in the little ways I can via the music threads that I have some experience in.

No I haven't hear that release.. I have the Sony Master Sound Gold CD CK-53753 in my system that I purchased way back in the day when it was originally released. At the time I had the first regular US CD release but found the MasterSound release superior enough to pass the original on. Just to be clear to everyone all of my music collection now resides on my computer's hard drive in flac files. Couldn't spare the space for my large CD and LP collection after my move to retirement digs in FL. :D

I'm in the process of ripping all my CDs to computer ... been quite the learning curve, taken me near forever, and still not done. One advantage I absolutely dig about computer based music archives is the ability to re-create another "disposable" copy (CDR) at will, perfect for the truck, boat, camping, and any such similar abuses / handling ... this especially more important since many of my favorite CDs have proven far more delicate {some now unreadable} than I previously imagined. If the CDR gets damaged, who cares ... rip another.
