Woke up at 3 AM tonight needing something to sooth the savage beast. [No Not Thomas]
Mellowing out with one of my all time fav albums
Stevie Wonder - Songs In The Key Of Life
A great studio recording that comes off well here with a little Neo:6 surround processing. Albums reverb combines nicely with processing to just open up
my whole room giving a slight of hand "walls disappearing" effect. YMMV ;)

Time for something completely different.
Jethro Tull - Aqualung (Steven Wilson 24/96 Remaster from HDTracks
I have to give major kudo's to Mr Wilson for the remix/mastering job he did on this one. I make no claims as to any benefit coming from the HiRez distribution of same but IMO this release is a huge improvement of anything I have heard that came before. Vocals are smooth in a way rarely heard from albums recorded in this day and the incredible bass line (listen to the kick drum on the Aqualung track) is crisp-detailed making my room throb with the output of my dual subs. I always loved this album and this remaster has given it new life for me.
"Laughing in the playground -- gets no kicks from little boys:
would rather make it with a letching grey.
Or maybe her attention is drawn by Aqualung,
who watches through the railings as they play.

Cross-eyed Mary finds it hard to get along.
She's a poor man's rich girl
and she'll do it for a song.
She's a rich man stealer
but her favour's good and strong:
She's the Robin Hood of Highgate --
helps the poor man get along." :D

A highly underrated band and album of the mid 1970s

very interesting, since I've had the opposite experience ... got to give the Wilson version a listen.

... after my original Aqualung LP went missing in action, I tried, but couldn't find a replacement equal. I was provided needledrops of audiophile pressings, they sounded seemingly way too lean, lacking much bottom end. Perhaps it was recorded very lean, wasn't certain, don't remember my orig LP sounding nearly as bass shy, but its been a very long time. The few remasters I tried (pressings?) were (typical for remasters) more bass heavy, but w/added compression.

However, not long ago, I came across a dynamically capable Original Masters CD (pressing?) and it rejuvenated my Jethro Tull kink. The thing is, this pressing is still titled quite lean, but it has the dynamic slam I require.

A friend has the orig 1983 UK CD and the DCC remaster CD of Aqualung, neither heard in my system, but very much would like too ...

Agree with you about Kansas The Wall, another album I've probably not heard for decades (but remember it fondly).

The version I was comparing it to is a needledrop rip of a early lp pressing. Can't say exactly which one though. I continually kick myself for not adding more detail to the metadata files back when. :(
Ian is some character, I remember him refusing to come on stage till the crazy stoned audience took their seats and quieted down.
Then at the Chicago Stadium, a horrid reverberant place for a concert, he opened the show by making a statement that he loved the Chicago fans but would not be returning till they found a sonicly better place for him to perform.
Lastly it was so funny to see him place his flute in a cup attached to his groin as he'd dance around with it waving like a giant silver *****.. LOL

I bought the big box for this one, having loved what Steven Wilson had done with a few King Crimson remasters (remixes rather). Love it.
