This is for a secondary music system, a 2.1 system using the ADS 200's. The emphasis is on music, this will not be used for home theater.

The ADS 200's are quite good speakers but lack any real low end below maybe 150~200 Hz. They need SOME KIND of sub to bolster their low end even for the casual listening that this system is intended for. And I am looking to spend as little as possible! Right now I have a Yamaha NS-SW050BL that I got used for $40 and it tries to add some low bass like it thinks it's in a home theater, but does not sound musical at all, and there's no crossover adjustment on it. I have a MiniDSP I could use to try and EQ it but I would prefer a sub that would work better right off the bat.

Active or passive, I don't care as I have a couple of Mini DSP's and amplifiers out the ying yang, so to speak. But it has to sound MUSICAL and be CHEAP!!! CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP!

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

This is new and probably $200 over budget. But then you didn't list a budget.

About $300 plus tax and delivery. Getting good revues. I haven't seen measurements yet. But, RSL Subs are very popular.

Well hahaha $300 is not expensive, but it is not cheap either, really. Looks like it emphasizes home theater type bass, not sure it would suit my needs.

Something used as opposed to brand new would likely cost less. There is a Mission powered 8" sub I am bidding on.... at $29 right now but likely will go quite a bit higher. I'm not willing to pay very much for it, we'll see how the auction goes.

I am actually thinking now of building a box to hold some quality 8 inch driver, not necessarily a subwoofer driver but just some good woofer like the Dayton RS225-8. But I hate to have to build a box.

Look out for old Triad Bronze subs. These are really nice - Peerless XLS10 driver in a solid closed box, but often sell very cheap.

" Triad Bronze" OK thanks I''l look

And that Dayton / Parts Express 0.75 cu. ft. knock-down box, yes I know about that. The Dayton RS225-8 wants a 0.5 cu ft box, but yeah it might be ok if somewhat underdamped.

Only used Triad Bronze subs are see are going for $270-$500 more than I want to spend on this occasional-use system. I'd like to get by under $150.
