I was able to acquire a nice Phillips 388 amp, this is my 1st vintage integrated amp, the reason I got the particular amp is because I am the owner of a Philips AH673 tuner, which is one of the very best vintage tuners.

There is not much information about the 388 amp, made in Japon, USA designed maybe ? 1977-61, 80 wpc, msrp $469

here are technical specifications

Is this a decent amp ? My plan is to take it to the tech for a complete restoration, however I am not so sure if I should

thanks for your help

I'm surprised nobody has answered. Nice amp! The specs look good and it appears to be incredibly well built. I'm not sure what speakers you want to use with it but anything with normal sensitivity should not be a problem. It will possibly need new power supply capacitors and maybe a few others but it sounds like you've already planned for that. If the cost to test and service it doesn't scare you off, I say go for it and enjoy!

I had the 388's kid brother, the Philips 384, with 40 watts/channel. An excellent amp, it powered my Allison 3 speakers when they were new in 1979. I regret selling the Philips, but I did that a few years later to help pay for a Mitsubishi DA-R20 receiver that I still have.
