Hi all
Further to my previous post I went ahead and purchased a pair of Neumann KH120ii's. They sound great overall...but....the low mid/high bass sounds quite dominant to my ears. I'm also using Kali IN8v2's and being a professional mix engineer I'm used to using and hearing many different monitors and had Event Opals previously. Expectedly the Kali's are very different to the Neumanns but I'm surprised at how much more perceived hi mid/ bass there is on the Neumanns. I'm listening to commercial mixes by Serban Ghana and Manny Marroquin so it's not just my mixes.

I moved the Neumanns from their current position ( see scan ) to on the desk where the piano currently lives and everything changed...no more excessive bass... I'm wondering if the MA-1 mic / DSP room correction will sort this out? The reason for the question is that this isn't a room issue as such.....more positioning of the monitor in relation to surrounding objects and desk position. I tried flipping the bass eq to -2 and it sounded slightly better but firstly I lost a bit of low mid definition and I'm also aware that these are supposed to be flat down to 50hz so I'm reluctant to mess with EQ's. Anyonehad anything similar or used the MA-1 to fix such issues?

Or alternatively a UMIK-1 + REW + MMM and PEQ filter on the audio interface to tame the room mode.

MA-1 should fix it nicely, but the switches on the back should not be avoided. I suspect the "low mid" control is the one you should be experimenting with, but the manual will have more info.

MA-1 will do this better than switches ... much better (deeper low end, and more precisely cut instep)

Had the same with the bigger KH150. Ma1 fixes this perfectly and is absolutely needed with these monitors (because outcome improves a lot)

They're on a desk, of course the low mids will dominate. The dip switches can't fix this sort of interaction you need to use dsp and in this case ma1 if you can.
