Unfortunately, Marantz still relies on class-ab for this AVR. The disadvantages are well known. From my point of view, no real competition for the NAD T799.
I am going to check out Bryston , and Storm. We are moving and I need something living room ,wife approved, no more upgrading. I like the modern look of the JBL which I figured out is what I saw in Best Buy.
The T799 features NAD's new Dynamic Digital Headroom (DDH, known from the M66) technology, which eliminates clipping between samples (intersample peaks) of the digital signal.
You really don't need this stupid DDH to prevent intersample peak distortion. All other brands like Denon, don't have it and don't have any intersample peak distortion issues. My NAD C658, and so does the M33, have a serious intersample peak distortion on many hot-recorded albums, even on streaming services. They never got mixed by a FW update.
Sounds like huge exaggeration about the whole thing, so as to make the point that it is a real issue. This kind of distortions issue has been known for many years and John Siau himself cited many solutions throughout the presentation. Need to put him in a DBT lol...
