I bought a MiniDSP 2x4HD, originally with the intention of only applying EQ to my subwoofer channel only, using REW. However, I’ve been considering buying the upgrade to Dirac Live and applying to both my mains and sub.
I had a look at the user manual for the DDRC-24 (ie. Dirac upgraded version of the 2x4HD), and want to make sure I’m understanding the signal flow diagram correctly:
It looks to me like if I was to use this device for correcting a 2.1 system, Dirac would only “see” two channels with the sub already integrated, and would not be able to separately apply correction to the 3 speakers. Am I interpreting correctly?
If so, does this kind of correction tend to give acceptable results? It seems like it would be very important to apply separate correction for the subwoofer channel, given that its physical location will interact differently with the room than the mains.
Also, if I upgrade to Dirac, it looks like theres a drop in the internal sample rate from 96 to 48kHz. Are there any negative effects of this in practice? Seems like it should have no effect on frequencies below the Nyquist frequency of 24kHz. But I’m not totally clear in the internals of how Dirac performs correction, so wanted to make sure.
