Yes, it makes sense that you were disappointed when no one replied to your question. It's certainly not fun to feel ignored. I think it's safe to assume that no one knew the answer. Cheers.
Yes, surely, this forum is not for phone specialists, that's why I participate in VE. I'll ask my question one of these days.

My kitchen or my listening room.
the answer is go digital of some sort. Phono sucks.

Once again, do not judge preference. Accuracy in 2-channel systems is often secondary to a good illusion, which of course you can get in digital, vinyl, tape or most anything *IF* you like that particular illusion.

I wrote a detailed and long reply to Newman and he disappeared!? Censorship!!!!
Who has been? Again another forum in which mods fight and act behind the boss's back?
Hopefully he or someone with common sense gets to read this before they proceed to delete it again!

For the record and out in the open. Your post was deleted by me. Specifically because it was not in English and we don’t permit non English posts here. And you were sent a message explaining that. No one is hiding anything and we’re not out for you. Maybe cut back on the weed as you may be experiencing symptoms of paranoia. It just a forum about Audio Science.

No, no, I have not received any PM regarding my missing post, and you are treating me as paranoid? Won't it be you? Are there prejudices then? Well yes, I am "sudaca", friend, and proud of it.

it seems very difficult for me to achieve, I'm not sure if it's because of race, religion, politics, or just prejudice.

Ok, maybe you can unwind with a little time off.

What? The deletion note was only sent directly to Urunamba and no one else. The post I deleted was Not in English and you may be mixing up a different post. In any case you would not receive any email from us about another member’s post. So either I am misunderstanding your post or you are misunderstanding the situation.

I sent you a DM with the email notification that I received. Might have been a different deleted post.

It "sucks" to you, because you probably haven't had the opportunity to listen to good, well-recorded vinyl on a good audio system. For me, battered, scratched or badly recorded vinyl "stinks", yes, but in the digital area we find stinky things too. Forget the current revival, befriend a vinyl veteran and ask him to play his favorite vinyl for you.
I bet you'll change your mind.
I was that vinyl nerd for 45 years. I sold my kit and records about two years ago and have never been happier.

I wouldn't be so negative tbh

either
the customer can't pay attention or doesn't know what he wants very clearly.
or
the speakers can potentially sound glorious.

yes, the shop's listening room can be optimized acoustically to sell speakers (that's something I would expect), yes, the dealer can potentially manipulate a comparative listen, simply by changing the volume a bit but the dealer doesn't have all the responsibility here, the customer can and should do his homework.

glorious to awful is a very long road. It could be due to inadequate amplification, but the dealer probably has enquired about it as it gives him an opportunity for an additional sale. But assuming a speaker goes from glorious to awful, it is most probably because of speaker/room interaction. I don't doubt there are dishonest dealers who would sell you full range towers for a 4m by 4m room but, in general, dealers will ask about the listening conditions at the home, if only to avoid huge problems, lots of discussions and impact on their reputation.

On the customer's side, since the customer knows the speakers can sound glorious, he could investigate a bit the aspect of EQ and room positioning plus treatment. That's the most important thing anyway. And one can't expect a reseller to know how speakers will behave in all types of rooms beyond obvious mismatches.

It is again the customer responsibility imho. He had the opportunity to listen and essentially borrow speakers for a while. I today's world, that is a privilege and the dealers don't have an easy life in the current market.

Speakers that you can listen to and test drive at home are not the zone where people are conned, I believe. Upselling fancy cables and eventual accessories on the other hand...

The only area where dealers are systematically dishonest, in my experience is when they are comparing what they sell to what they aren't selling. The competition they don't carry is always poor in comparison to the wares they peddle.

Let's face it: most of the bad things that happen to audiophiles are self-inflicted. Your fancy cables were a con? Your fault. You can't hear the difference between the perfectly serviceable $200 DAC you had and the $10000 one you bought because there isn't any. Your fault again.

What is a dealer supposed to do when a customer comes in and wants "better cable"? Spend half an hour of his time trying to convince the customer cables don't matter, with absolutely zero chance of changing his mind?
Hi,

Most of this i agree upon.

when i bought my new speakers about a year ago i could try them out in my own living room for almost 2 weeks, when i told him they were good, but still had doubts he advised me not to buy them, then i auditioned another pair, again at home, and those are the ones i bought in the end.

And even before i bought anything from him we had multiple Intake-talks about my interests (music and otherwise), so ... i guess i was just lucky that way.

I'm happy with the purchase anyways:)

I aspire to a better system than my current setup after I sell my condo and get into a house and can play it loud. Until then my system is a pair of older Genelecs with built-in volume control, connected by RCA line level out to a set top Panasonic DVD burner capable of playing any disc including SACD etc. Sounds great for my current quiet ambient sound needs. I can put also the Genelecs in near-field position at 10 and 2 o'clock of my recliner and get enough pleasure.

I intend to avoid Nervosa by upgrading my monitors to new Genelec "The Ones" and avoid the questions and hassles of properly matching speakers with amps. I admit to a certain amount of uncertainty re the other components needed. I look here, primarily, for insights. I am hoping to see more complete-system-in-a box offerings rather than even get into self-doubting my choice on any particular component.

The new Genelecs won't have built-in volume control so I'll need a pre-amp. Also a DAC, streamer, NAS, etc, etc. But give me an integrated system and I'll probably be happy. I'd guess that the DAC might be the only thing that I might care to upgrade if worthwhile improvement has been made on the decoding. But if the DAC is built-in, upgrading that component wouldn't be a concern for me.

Digitizing my CD collection, many issued by the label I was with for years is currently more important to me than Spotify, Tidal etc. since they have resonance with me.

One thing that prevents Nervosa for me is the fact that I listen to a fair amount of "archival" classical recordings from years ago when the word audiophile was not yet invented. When I listen to Sviatoslav Richter playing the late Beethoven piano sonatas live from the '50s, I'm too busy listening to Richter to really hear the sonic shortcomings. Ditto for many recordings in my typical rotation. No audiophile system can help those recordings much. I want the new system to digitize and easily call up a digitized CD easily. After that, the online streaming offerings will be considered.

Kind of the wrong thread to post this to. But good luck with your upgrade.
