Exactly. I remember the story* of the Cossacks, who wore splendid, fancy uniforms (to show they could afford them) but then went out of their way to let them get dirty, stained, damaged, and torn -- to show that they didn't care about such trivial things as expensive uniforms).

It's very possible that the spouses of audiophiles have snapped these up for use as a true High End breadbox.

Just think!! If it had included a vacuum tube rectified (and regulated) linear power supply (e..g, for USB 5VDC), McIntosh could also have marketed it as a bread proofing box.

McIntosh used to be a serious audio company. Now, their mission mostly seems geared toward seriously separating serious money from unserious fools. No shame, however it's a damned shame when one thinks about men like Frank McIntosh and Gordon Gow.
