Yes there's the RME, but should I really be spending $2k on that when the amp costs only slightly more.
I'm currently using an audioengine which is fine, just doesn't have balanced outputs.

Ideally it would be nice to have something like an audio interface, however I didn't really use the inputs much on the last one I had.

Something relatively cheap, looks nice, balanced output, headphone output, physical volume. Of course with decent measured performance to compliment the amp. Will be using PC as source.

There are so many options of transparent DACs, depending on your desired features, budget, and looks you find appealing.

However, I would look at miniDSP flex balanced. Unfortunately, it doesn't have headphones out or a 12V trigger, but it's a powerful DSP (Dirac correction, EQ, crossover for subs with highpass for mains).

The RME gives you a lot more than other DACs (PEQ, a very good and powerful hp amp, crossfeed, dynamic loudness, even ADC in the Pro FS).

But if you don't need (or want) it's abilities, you can't go wrong with a DAC reviewed here with a SINAD north of 100 dB.

I just got the SMSL DL100 at the AliExpress summer sale for $150 with coupons. You can fit any amplifier on top of it, 1.5 watts at 32ohm, and has RCA and XLR out. At that price you can grab a Scarlett interface and it's a great 5 volt DAC for an amplifier.
