Hi ASR, this is what I’m trying to find out. I really wonder if my meta’s will sound better and the AVR will have to work less.
I’ve been building a budget Atmos system (also used as stereo system), with my limited knowledge. Learned a lot here, but kind of stuck with this. It’s a small room, 4x4 meter, and volume is mostly at about -15 to -20 on the AVR.

What’s connected now:

- 2x KEF LS50 meta (L/R)
- 2x KEF Q150
- 1x KEF Q250 (C)
- 2x SVS SB1000
- 2x KEF T101
- 2x KEF hts e301

Guess these are quite a lot of speakers on this single AVR and the Meta’s are difficult to drive. I’ve been eyeing the Audiophonics MPA S250 NC which seems really adequate for this purpose. But there’s the new 3e A7 now, and there are a lot of other options out there…
Lots of lurking around here on the forum, and also read that an extra amp might not make an audible difference.
But experimenting a bit with a poweramp seems fun, especially when they’re as cheap as they are nowadays.

So maybe some of the professionals around here could comment on what to choose? I’m also unsure about the output voltage of the 3800 pre-out matching the input of the poweramp, which makes it kind of a challenge.

Thank you!

Hi

You don’t need additional amps. The 4800 should drive your complement of speakers in this room.

Peace

The X3800H is plenty for this setup. You are listening at low levels in a small room. Speaking from experience with Q100 and LS50 speakers, you usually run out of cone excursion before amplifier power.

If you want to make a meaningful improvement to this system a better centre channel would be the place to start. It carries all the dialogue and on-screen action, for movies and TV it should be the highest quality speaker, not playing second fiddle to your front L/R.
