Misha Tsiganov is a Russian pianist who won national jazz competitions as a youth, moved to the USA to study at Berklee at the bequest of Gary Burton, and has been an in-demand session musician in New York since ~2003. He's released 4 albums, and this is the first cut from his 2022 release "Misha's Wishes", and features Seamus Blake on sax. John Daversa is a Grammy-winning trumpeter, arranger and jazz educator, and has released about a dozen albums since 2009, about half of them with a big band. Here is live in the studio performance of the first tune from "ARCeology: The Music of MSM Schmidt", the 2022 release by the ARC trio & The John Daversa Big Band. The Dave Slonaker Big Band has released 4 albums since 2013, and earned a Grammy nomination with their first. The two videos below are from their 2022 release, "Convergency." That is Peter Erskine, of Weather Report fame, on the drums. A YouTube link to the entire album follows the videos. Big band jazz lives on, as shown by this wonderful new release!

From their own website. "The Composers' Orchestra Berlin is a large orchestra, with strings, horns and rhythm section, founded in autumn 2010 by composer & conductor Hazel Leach. The members of the orchestra are not only improvising instrumentalists, but are also the composers. There is no fixed line-up: the composers can select instruments from the pool, to develop a brand-new and innovative orchestral repertoire with stylistic influences ranging from classical to jazz and from folk to free…. the music written for this band has no exclusion zones. Since its founding in the autumn of 2010 the COB has become an established part of the Berlin jazz-scene, with regular concerts in the Kunstfabrik Schlot and the production of 4 CDs and an audiobook."
