Is it possible for serial numbers of two Denon AVRs to differ only by the last digit?

My replacement X4800H unit has arrived after it was sent to Denon lab for testing. The lab report mentions some servicing ID but no other details. The dealer told me the unit was replaced.

But the new unit has the exact same serial number except for the last digit which was advanced from 7 to 8. How is this possible? What if a consumer makes a typo during registration or Dirac license purchase? He might end up buying a Dirac license for some dude he never met in Afghanistan...

Is it possible that they just serviced my unit and changed one digit?

That's the whole point of serial numbers and it's normal.
It may be a huge coincidence, but I would assume that the device was replaced. I don't think Denon leaves out extra numbers for something like that when assigning serial numbers.

And as for the rest, you can prove that you are the owner of the device with that serial number, and vice versa, so no problem.

Yes. it is a different unit because my router still says that the old AVR is offline and shows this new AVR with a different MAC address. I was hoping to get a unit from a different batch but got one from the same manufacturing batch. Let's hope this one isn't affected by the relay noise like the previous one...

With such devices there is often only one batch. Often there are only 1 or 2 production lines on which many different devices are built cyclically. With expensive devices with smaller quantities, therefore, often only one batch is built within the market life cycle.
