How to strip wires with a lighter

For many years I did it with diagonal cutters. It's one of those things like riding a bicycle. Once you find the sweet spot it usually works. I use a stripper now, the relatively cheap kind with graduated holes. The one drawback is that you need two, one for fine gauge and one for thicker gauge.
 
I strip 'em by feel with a pair of diagonal wire cutters, which was the way my father did it and the way he taught me to do it. I am old school.
That's right, save the flames for your gas lights! :)
 
I think using a lighter for this (indoors) is maybe a little worse idea than using teeth. One causes brain damage, the other only damages the tooth.
 
The only time I would consider doing this is for tonearm wire with cotton insulation
