Greatest Hits vs Greatest Hits ...

I have been very impressed with Oppo's support and response, just haven't had the time or inclination to fix or replace mine. I think mine is about seven years old now. The CD problem they all (all Oppo's past and present) have is one of start-up latency and is out of their control, nothing to do with reliability, or anything else once the music starts. It did cause me to switch from HDMI to analog out just for CDs, which sent me into "what-if" trades between the 103 and 105. There were also issues with the new Oppo's and Emotiva's XMC-1 so I dithered. Ultimately I just ignored the whole issue but so far an extended rest has not restored the laser in my old Oppo.

There is something that very very few people have attended to do, in order to refocus the laser lens manually, with the laser adjustment screws, by try and check, or better with instrumentation. I started a thread once about this very subject, to see if I can fix my Panny Blu-ray player's laser lens all by myself.
I asked the question here @ ASR once, but no one knew anything about.
I also asked @ diyAudio, but without results, and if there's a place on the World Wide Web to ask technical audio questions it's there. ...Even from a laser lens used to read Blu-rays, and not only CDs and DVDs and SACDs. ...Audio/video.
I believe I even asked @ AVForum across the Atlantic ocean, and also @ Audioholics during the "tumultuous" years.
I'm not sure if I asked @ WBF in the past...(edit: yes I did, I checked earlier).
I did ask @ AVS though for certain; I had no positive responses. So I googled around and shared my own findings through some youtube videos to AVS members. I did not take the time yet to do it myself though, but I know that I will. It's quite simple to do for us, for me; I have nothing to lose because the player has been packed for several years now; so any attempt is better than no attempt @ all. I just have to take the time and experiment... :)

Let me see if I can relocate some...

Two, if you like your Oppo BR player, their technicians will certainly have the expertise and instrumentation to resuscitate its laser lens focus, for Blu-rays, DVDs and CDs. IMO hundred dollars is fair.

EDIT: Reason for edit → Typo and Melania Trump.

My Oppo is an older model, BDP-83, and one of the lasers went out. They had me take it apart and clean it but no joy. I got an RMA at one point but was unable to follow through. They charge $100 for repair IIRC and, while not unreasonable, that bought me a new little Sony to get me through last holiday season (Oppo went out right before Thanksgiving). I was also debating about a newer model, but Oppo has some issues playing CDs, and I waffled on 103 vs. 105 and whether I wanted Darby or not. Still sitting on its box waiting for me to decide. Laser aging is an issue with any transport.

Yeah, I replaced the laser in my main player when it was last in for service; as a precaution, the old laser worked fine but I figured they'd not be servicing these older models much longer. That said; it's amazing how long lasers can last ... ex: my 1992 Nad (new caps) & original Rega Planet still spinning.

Antoine, I don't have the above albums but I love Heart.

I love this acoustic live concert one:

I have no idea about its ↑ Dynamic Range Compression though.

That picture has enough dynamic range for me, thx North, I'll check it out ... I've the Night At Sky Church BR.

Should give it another wirl, a wooden performance comes to mind, remember watching it once and thinking that was enough.
