Douk Audio Invites you to Help Shape Our VU360 VU Meter Together

Please make something showing true output power instead of this gimmicky Christmas light.

I'd like something like this put in a nice box, representing both the power reading in number and as a bar where you choose the max. value.

BTW, just for your i.e. OP @Douk Audio's reference, I have shared four video clips showing dancing IEC60268-17 compatible DIY 12-VU-Meter Array on my project thread.
- Dancing video of my IEC 60268-17 compatible large glass-face DIY 12-VU-Meter Array

_____Part-2: with typical "Full Orchestra Music"-1: #751
_____Part-3: with typical "Full Orchestra Music"-2: #752

Many thanks for all your suggestions! It gave us a lot of ideas and inspiration!
I have collected and sorted out your opinions and fed them back to our product department.
There are a few points to note:
1. This VU360 is positioned as a desktop audio companion, focusing more on the display effect, so that a good visual enjoyment can be achieved while listening to high-quality music. Therefore, in terms of design, the audio function is relatively simple, and the actual output power cannot be displayed.
2. We have recently launched an upgraded version of Douk Audio VU3 according to the feedback from our VU3, the VU3Pro (https://amzn.to/3TyOWeI), please take a look when you have time, many improvements have been made on the basis of VU3. If you still have some suggestions after trying it, you can send it to me, thank you again!
3. In the process of upgrading VU3, we have also learned that some users have the demand for accurate display of power output. The high-precision version is already in progress now and is expected to be officially released at the end of the year. At present, it is tentatively planned to use a blue monochrome VU meter head (to distinguish it from the current VU3pro). If you have other suggestions for the high-precision version, please leave your comments. I will record the feedback one by one and give it to our engineers.

The speaker / amp selection needs to include subwoofer out in addition to left / right.

3)
What features are you working on IR to the upgraded VU3? What does it mean when you say it's high precision?
I'd buy it in a heartbeat if it was able to measure real time power as the device I've linked. No such product exists on the market to my knowledge.

I did a test of the FOSI LC-30 and compared its behavior against the VU Meters of an Accuphase E-405.
Made some videos for my (german) review (use translator if interested).
Fosi LC-30 review with videos of "dancing needles"

If I were to buy another VU Meter, then it should be precision, speaker level.

+1 horizontal Meters
+1 stackable (Square design doesn´t match any other devices)

I don't know if this is possible but could you have a low level or night mode. As I do luke listen to quiet music to fall asleep to I would like a night mode where the vu meters dance to low level music/sound.

This a big ask but could their be a central screen for a usbc or hdmi input I do have my vu under a small monitor at night and have visual showing in the dark while the visuals played.

Hi, I have confirmed with our PD, the VU3PRO high-precision version is still during under development, but yeah, it can measure the real-time power from our design intention.

Thank you! I have conveyed your advice to our PD, this won't be added in the VU360 but they may design a new one with this function in the soon future after their research.

Yeah, the brightness, gain and sensitivity of the VU360 is adjsutable. At night, you can turn its brightness to the low level, the gain and sensitivity to the max level. It's powered by USB-C, very convenient to use.

Thank you for all comments, I have collected for our PD but most opinions are not suitable for the VU360 whose main function is for the vision, we will take those to the design of our new products!
After some researches and references, below is the vu meter dial we designed. If convenient, please take some time to vote the one you like.

Perhaps a designation of sorts is in place with this many options.:)

Hi, I have confirmed with our PD, the VU3PRO high-precision version is still during under development, but yeah, it can measure the real-time power from our design intention.
If this is intended for power amp outputs it needs to go a lot lower than -20db full power or it will barely move with amps over 100watts. A sensitivity switch would work but a meter that goes to -40 dB would be better. Also add at least a peak LED, the one thing you really need to know. The only way that real time power would be accurate is if the meter also senses the current. If it only reads db it also needs to be able to calibrate for different amps, 20 to 1000 watts.

Hi, here is our engineer's reply: with a speaker impedance selector.(for select 4 ohm, 6 ohm, 8 ohm.), and a dB selector (-10dB, 0,+10dB)
And he also has a question: what the display function of the peak LED you want? When it reaches 0dB, it will light up, right?

Two separate display Rectangular Power Meters will look better.

Just for your possible interest and reference...

The day before yesterday, I shared six new dancing video clips of my DIY-built 12-VU-Meter Array (IEC60268-17 compatible) together with all the on-screen Peak Meters of audio software tools while playing reference/sampler music tracks by JRiver MC, ADOBE Audition 3.0.1 and MusicScope 2.1.0;
