@GGroch I understand what you are saying and agree. However, one can take two known files and ABX them using Foobar for example. So effectively blinded and one can determine if there is an audible difference, and if there is, what is your preference...
Yeah this is an important point one can do for oneself. Not practical for Arch's article. He'd need to determine if groups of people can reliably hear a difference prior to having them express a preference.

If you can't ABX the files, then preference falls out of being possible.

In fact sometimes you can ABX files for which you don't have a preference. The reverse isn't going to be so.
