Desktop speakers $250 - $350 range?

I bet these sound good and are a fine choice for the price. But these are pretty much the least expensive SB Acoustics tweeter and woofer you can get. These drivers sound good and are great for the money, but I don't know that we know enough about the OEM drivers (e.g., Elac, Kali, etc.) in some of the other recommendations to say these are "hands down...better drivers".
Ok fair enough,we can call the drivers" a draw" with the other options at the Price point...Btw, you spliced together 2 different statements to make a rebuttal to a point I wasn't trying to make, the * choice* is "hands down " ...." better drivers" refers to my listing the reasons why... No offense taken though, and I agree that assumption of" better drivers " is open for debate....

You are correct and I was wrong. I went back and re-read your statement and I interpreted it incorrectly. :)

I was just looking at those. Crutchfield has them for $525. Very tempting, especially at the Amazon price.

After my experience with the Q150s (here, for those who haven't seen the thread), I'm also looking at even higher priced models, such as the Elac Carina or the Revel M16.

Crap man, I think this is harder than choosing floorstanding speakers. Not only do they have to sound good for a reasonable price, they have to work well for near-field listening. I've half a mind to just upgrade my main speakers (Ascend Sierra-LX) and move those to my desk. Do you think that would be overkill?

I have Revel F208 as mains

I have Revel F206, C208, M106, M16 (2 pair)

The Elac Uni-Fi 2.0 UB52 are kitchen duty and I probably listen to these more than any other.
(Remember they’re 3 way with front port) streaming through Wiim Pro analog out to Loxjie A30

Would love to hear the new Ascends.
