Centered volume knobs

I had a couple of Onkyo integrateds in the early 2000s. Both had centered volume knobs. The A-809 actually sounded a lot better to my tin ears than the much more expensive A9911.

Those are not in the center, or my eyes need fixing o_O.
I went through the thread and IIRC not all of them were in the *exact* center, but yeah you're right - at least for the A9911; the knob on the A809 looks pretty darn close to center, but then again I'm not exactly going to spend any time measuring it. LOL

This thread illustrates how build quality [and styling] deteriorated after the 1970s. And why the better [Japanese] 70s amps get such high prices on Ebay. Some exceptions like Yamaha AX, though...although the volume knobs not as nice as Sansui AU.

Transiently, yes, deterioration (in the '80s) in the service of a "tech" look (tech of the time)...

But... there's plenty of current production stuff that looks nice, and not all of it is retro-styled, either.



Of course, though, when it comes to design/fashion: as always, it's a matter of taste -- and de gustibus non est disputandum.
