Just found out that Dr Lonnie Smith passed in 2021. I had the pleasure of seeing his trio at Ronnie Scotts in 2018, I think this is the actual performance I attended:


Great leader in his own right and graced the stage with legends. Maybe I'm getting old but it feels that they don't make 'em like this anymore.

I was expecting to see him at the Village Vanguard many years ago, but he sent one of his students -Akiko Tsuruga - she was amazing!

Dave Sanborn, saxophonist.

To be fair I can live without that stylized Jazz from the 80’s, but it had its place. Dave was a great Saxophonist nonetheless!
Oh...that's sad. Sometimes I hear his Chicago song which is so powerful.
