I am trying to calibrate my Scarlett 4i4 in REW. I'm doing something wrong because I am getting very odd frequency responses. I have connect a TRS cable from output 1 to input 1 or 2 (I've tried both. When I go to set the levels in that step of REW calibration, about the highest I can get the input is about -55 dB. That's with the gain on the input fully maxed. If I do the measurement at that level I get the frequency response posted below (and noise and distortion well over 100%. So I must be connecting things wrong or setting things wrong. Any help would be appreciated.

Could you try edit Input volume on Window Sound control Panel.
I guess, REW or Other Software change to 0.25(25). It need to be 1.0(100).
I don't know if this isn't the problem

Thank you. I'm on a Mac, but system volumes are maxed. REW controls for output volume and input volume are inaccessible regardless what device I set.

Hi. I did, what you are trying to do about 2 years ago on my 4i4 using a PC. It worked great and I was able to get even slightly better SINAD values than specified by the manufacturer.

As it is two years ago I don’t remember exactly what I did, but indeed something seems odd. Did you try to hook up the output to a speaker just to check there is a signal? Same with the input, can you hook up an e guitar for example also just to check it is working. How is your Focusrite panel setup for the signal routing? To what did you set the physical volume knob too? Maybe try -6dBS, keep the physical volume knob at zero, start the test tone and carefully increase the volume knob (I think that’s what I did at the time).

Sorry that’s all I can think off atm. But keep trying it should work.

Thank you all. It was just me having the cable plugged in wrong on the back!

:)

Glad it is sorted.

I’d interested to see you measurements once you have them.
Here is the frequency and distortion plots:

This is for the Arc with the gain on the mic around 70% and the main gain around 75%

Thanks.

I got to around 95dB SINAD or so (spec is about 92 if I remember correctly), but it is very sensitive to volume setting and input gain (you need to maximize the output signal for starters. I think about -3dBFS should do the trick and crank up that volume knob).

Now that I know how to do it I'll play with the settings a bit to get closer to spec when I get a bit of time.

After a quick play around, it looks like about the best I can do for N + D is -94 dB

That’s great. Like mine, also slightly better than specs if I remember correctly. What more can one ask for - a product actually meeting (exceeding) its published specs. While considering that what we measured is the total DAD performance not only the DA performance.
