Bookshelf speakers, small room, close to wall.

Some suggestions:
- Amphion Argon 1: Made in Finland; approx 1300 € / pair VAT included; 86 dB sensitivity at 8 ohm, so You might get the desired peak volume in a small room.
- Elfton Vigo MK II: Made in Czech republic; approx 1900 € / pair; 91 dB sensitivity at 4 ohm, they go loud and with front facing reflex ports you can place them quite close to wall, size = 485mm x 300mm x 280mm, so they are close to Your limit regarding the size.
I appreciate your response.
Elfton is not readily available in the US.

I am not familiar with Amphion, but also do not appear widely available in the US.
Regarding ATC 7; Your 50W amp may not be enough though. My brother has the smaller 7's but drives them with 150w/ch and he seems to think they sound better now than with his previous Advance Accoustics 100w/ch amplifier

Regarding ProAc Tablette 10 or 10 Signature may be worth a look. They look lovely, never mind the sound :)

Appreciate your response.

ATC is off the list for your stated reason. I have heard that you need more to drive them, as well.
ProAC speakers mentioned have been noted by others to sound thin in mid/bass and a little bright. Not best suited for Rock at higher volumes. So, not for me.

So it looks like my running list is:

Confidently recommended:
Revel Performa M106
Ascend Sierra EX v2
Ascend Sierra LX
Focal Vestia No.1
Kef LS50
Buchardt S400 MKII
Spendor Classic
Something from Dynaudio. Model.

How should these be ranked to accomplish my goals?

Very much appreciate the help from this community. :)

Dynaudio Evoke 10 would work, they come with foam bungs if being placed close to the wall. Not super efficient but are happy to take a lot of punishment at high volumes.

Emit 20s are cheaper, with a bigger woofer, from the base model range.

Dynaudio are generally not fatiguing over long periods and can play loud.

Legacy Audio Studio HD (if can be had second hand at reduced price)

Dynaudio Emit 20 = Made in China, I fear :(

Running out of ideas :)

As to your list, I don't know any of them but had KEF's LS50 wireless 2. Not for long, dynamically limp but that could just have been the internal Class D amplification (AB to treble).

Buchardt is China too. Probably Kef LS50 too.

Yes. Almost everything below the Reference series from KEF is produced in China. I believe the new Q Series Meta is produced in Thailand, although I might need to check that.

Hi,

Bookshelf/monitor speaker recommendation under 2k/pair?

Here are the must haves:

Small room requires near wall placement.
For rock/blues music comfortable handle 95db
Nothing made in China
Small footprint, under 20” high
Neutral, not “bright”

Might consider used
Paired with vintage McIntosh 50W
Existing sub

Thank you very much for your help :)

Thank you for pointing this out. They are now off the list.

Revel Performa M106
Ascend Sierra EX v2

How would you rank them? Which would you recommend for your family member with the stated goals of the first post?

Thank so much for you help in develping this list.

Splendid idea!

Actually, we should ask ourselfes why it had taken that long for us folks here to use that info tool

Should be used with great care and a critical mind. It is not always right.

Correct. Thanks for your help.

Neumann KH 120 - out because it is an active speaker.
KEF LS50 Meta - out b/c MIC
ATC SCM7 - requires more powerful amp than 50W to drive them adequately
Dynaudio Evoke 10 - out because MIC
Focal Aria 906 - a possibility.

Current list:
Revel Performa M106
Ascend Sierra EX v2
Ascend Sierra LX
Focal Vestia No.1 or Aria 906
Spendor Classic 4/5 or A1
Legacy Audio Studio HD

Any strong comparative opinions on these for my application?

Here are some measurements of the Legacy Audio Studio HD from Stereophile. Doesn't look great to me.
Here are some impressions and in-room measurements of the Focal Vestia No.1 from a member here on ASR. Looks to have the typical Focal tweeter dispersion characteristics which I don't like the look of on a graph but have never actually heard.
The Spendor models have a 6" woofer and a 22mm tweeter with a specified crossover frequency of 4,200 Hz... That will probably result in a large directivity mismatch and poor directivity with that flat baffle. Maybe I am judging a book by its cover but I can't understand why such a mundane design costs so much compared to other options with more advanced engineering efforts put in.

The other 3 options measure very well and personally I would want to hear them in my room to make the best decision. I lean towards Ascend Acoustics over Revel just because I like that they're a small US based company with direct support rather than Revels sparse dealer network.
