Are recordings, in general, liable to be mastered too hot in high frequencies?

As a rule, is it likely that recordings may be mastered with too much high frequencies for home reproduction, given that recording studios have all kinds of soundproofing and soundproofing is usually only provided by furniture and carpets at home? Should one expect to want to turn down the treble for home reproduction?

No, as the furniture in a normal living room also provided pretty decent attenuation of high frequencies. Unless you have one of these modern all glass, concrete and tiles living rooms.

Drag an audio WAV file onto the RTA window of REW and you'll be able to see the level and slope of the recorded material.
