I use an MOTU M4 (24/192 USB interface with two mic/line/instument in, two line in, and four line out) as the DAC for playback from my computer. Works very well; so far as I can tell I'm not giving up much if anything compared to DAC-only devices at that price point. It also serves as a very good ADC for recording. That's perhaps a prosumer item, as it only costs $270; MOTU does make full-on pro stuff as well with more I/O and prices in the thousands.
