Hi People,

New here, but quite enjoying the forum. Been browsing a bit around, bought a Topping E30 as a result which im very happy with.
I've noticed not alot of people here heard about or seen Quadral speakers. It never seemed Quadral has a huge following anywhere on the internet (maybe I am missing german forums :)?)

But the past 6-7 years i've owned numerous Quadral speakers and in my opinion they are the speakers I have ever heard in way of soundstage and bass reproduction.
I always had B&W, Magnats and T+A speakers. But after a while I bought some Quadral Shogun Phonologue Gold because they looked cool but man; after listening I was immediatly sold to the sound (could say tunnelvision). The treble which never sounds harsh in my opinion due too the ribbon tweeters (?) and the ginormous soundstage coming from two 6 inch drivers. Albeit the mid's were not the best I heard.

Couple months back I aquired a major step up; A pair of Quadral Vulkan MK4's in pristine condition. Based on """Transmission line""""" design. I must say it took a month and 6 people to carry these up the stairs (85kg each) :p

Quadral Vulkan MK4's

I've been listening to these for a while and they are by far the best speakers i've ever heard, though the tweeters are one step older design than the Shogun's and have a less pleasant sound in my opinion. But a subwoofer is definetly not needed anymore, they are very bass heavy which is maybe not a pro but a subwoofer is absolutely not needed in any case, they sound like I already have a very large invisible subwoofer. Especially when using one of the tracks I found here (Paula Cole - Tiger).

Well that's my rant, any other Quadral enthousiasts here?

Also maybe an interesting fact. One of my tweeters on my Quadral Shoguns broke. Quadral still repairs the tweeters from their old lineup from 20-30 years ago. You can send them your woofers/tweeter and they will repair it (not cheap tho but expected).

Just came across a review of another one of their active speakers, the Quadral Aurum Gamma, in Hifitest.de

1615157472041.png

Only out to 30 degrees, but that's fantastic for a Hi-fi oriented tower. If that performance holdsup further off-axis, it looks like a very interesting speaker. Plus it comes full Dirac.

It's a shame that company's don't make it easy to find measurements when they perform this good...

Vulkans seem to have been on a strict diet since your Mk IVs. Latest Aurum Vulkan is a mere 55Kg. My new speakers top out at 95 Kg so a big job to unpack and set up single handed!

I had a pair of Vulkan VIII for a couple of weeks some time back. They sounded pretty good but not convincing enough to switch for my (then) 2002 vintage Avantgarde Unos.

I visited a showroom in NL a couple of years ago and listened to their system for a couple of hours on a quiet Saturday afternoon. The speakers had concentric mid and top ribbons and 4 x 220 mm bass drivers (2 passive). I must say I was astonished at the sound these relatively small (just 47 Kg) speakers produced. I loved the ribbons. They were Piaga Coax 711. I'd never heard of them before and very rare in UK. I'd have liked to have arranged a home demo but I don't think there was a UK distributor at the time.

I was in Europe when there was that resurgence in the mid-latish 1980's with the likes of Quadral, Magnat and ELAC producing some great speakers at the time for pretty reasonable prices.
I had a pair of very early T+A Delta 30b multi directional speakers that were very sweet. From memory T+A were very much more an electronics company that offered kits of their gear back then (but my memory is not as reliable as it once was).

I had seen this before. But I am not sure if their measurements are controlled. I had the same thought when I saw many of quadrals graphs. Also I saw somewhere asw cantius ct 612s graph and I could not believe if it was true. Same with many piegas. I really don't know if Germans had already objective perfection back in 90s itself on budget gear. I personally have 3 pairs of ALR which though I haven't measured sounds very very like a monitor like genelec 1031 with more dispersion. The amps I used were denons and dac was just the apple dongle and the mojo. To ally they are very close but with little more perfect in mid and far field.
