A Call For Humor!

Or perhaps conspicuously present.
I think that those two expressions have the same truth value, logically speaking.
Beyond the word play I was thinking of the formats that died without achieving widespread awareness - they're absent but most wouldn't even think of them. People might think of Betamax, but how many would mention Video2000 or VCR - the tape format used by the Philips N1500, not the generic term. 5 1/4" floppies maybe, but probably not the 3" CF2 floppies or the older, larger floppy formats. DAT or DCC?

So that just leaves your transport and dual cassette deck unaccounted for.
;)

Not entirely sure what you mean by transport -- presumably not one of these(?). I ain't got one of these...

I do have a "VHS HiFi Stereo Audio Video Recorder", though -- and I know how to use it!
So there's that...

Minidisc?

I was going for CD transport as audiophile version of a cd player. ;)
ahhh...
Well, I mean... I use a dump-find DVD player as a transport with a DAC, so there's that, too. :)

re: the BDA-1... don't judge me! ;) I essentially got it for the price of shipping, albeit coast-to-coast, so not quite a freebie

FWIW, I wondered if you meant a tape transport -- i.e., what the old ones ;) would have called a tape deck -- the transport mechanics and tape heads, but no preamp or EQ for the heads' output(s) to drive a line level input, nor EQ and bias oscillator for recording. I actually don't have any of those, either.
Well... OK... technically the Otari's in two pieces, but the one I kept has those two pieces screwed together. :) I gave away the other two, carts & all.

Well, it seems like you have it all covered...

Except I haven't seen the cans with string yet... ;)

Oooh, I got a big hit of nostalgia upon seeing that Harman Kardon receiver. When I was in junior high school, my older brother came back from college one year with that receiver, a Technics turntable, and Boston Acoustics speakers. That started my love of hi-fi.
