First time posting here:

I bought a Topping e70 velvet on sale at Amazon during "Black Friday". I needed a good performing DAC that had a display, XLR outputs, remote control. I went for this DAC (with preamp function and LDAC bluetooth as bonuses) as I did have a good experience with the E30 (version I), that has been in use for ~3 years. I connected it with the XLR as output to my analog preamp and tested the optical and USB inputs without any issues. But I noticed that when I changed the attenuation on my Freya+ preamplifier in passive mode, there were noticeable pops coming out of the right speaker. Switching the XLR cables for new ones didn't alter the problem. Operating the DAC as a preamp, changing the maximum balanced output to 5V (or back to 4V) or changing the output mode between XLR and XLR/RCA didn't have an effect on the popping. The RCA output worked fine, no pops coming out. My preamp has two balanced inputs, I switched the XLR connectors from #1 to #2, the pops were still there, again only with the XLR outputs of the e70v, not with the SE output. So finally I reset the DAC to factory mode, set it up as a preamplifier and connected my two monoblocks directly to the DAC XLR outputs. Immediately the right monoblock tripped as soon as I increased the attenuation and was not able to play any audio. At this point I concluded there was something wrong with the balanced output stage of this unit.

Is there something wrong with this DAC unit? I haven't seen any firmware updates on the Topping site, so I am thinking the only solution is to return the unit for a refund (no exchanges on stuff on sale). Feedback will be highly appreciated.
