I purchased the original SMSL 300SE Desktop DAC/Headphone Amp when it was first released. Now, I notice it being advertised everywhere as an "upgraded/improved" version. Can someone shed some light on the differences between the original and upgraded versions? Are there clear advantages to the upgraded version over the previous one? Is it simply a matter of different firmware, and can I update the firmware to get the upgrade? If so, is it worth the trouble? Thank you.

it has the v1,1 firmware flashed onto it

that's it... oh and SMSL needs $10 more for that

i have the original 1.0 and it was $120?

the big thing is that the 1.1 adds filters

afaik you cannot buy an original 1.0 model any more

Basically, if I get the 1.1 firmware file and install it, will my device be up-to-date? Does this file even exist, and can the original model be updated to latest version without causing damage? I'm not sure if it's worth the trouble and potential risk of bricking my device just for a few filters that don't noticeably improve the sound. I could use some advice on this.

its all in the main thread

if you are buying new today its going to be V1.1

if you have an old one you can download the update

i didnt bother to update mine as i dont care for filters like you
