The legality of downloading music from the internet varies depending on the country and the specific circumstances. Generally, downloading copyrighted music without permission is illegal, especially if it's done through peer-to-peer networks or without paying for it. However, some countries have specific laws that may allow for certain types of downloading. For example, in Canada, downloading copyrighted music from peer-to-peer networks for personal, noncommercial use is legal due to a private copying levy, but uploading those files is not¹. In contrast, the U.S. Digital Millennium Copyright Act is much stricter and considers copying of copyrighted music without the exception of making a copy for your own use as illegal¹.

It's important to note that while some argue that illegal downloading is a victimless crime, others view it as equivalent to theft and believe it deserves serious sanctions². Laws regarding the sharing and downloading of music on the internet vary from country to country, so it's always best to be aware of the copyright laws that apply to your specific location¹²³. If you're unsure, it's safest to download music from legitimate sources that compensate artists and rights holders.

I used to share upwards of ~35k songs and videos on microtorrent but I stopped after some time of opening the flood gates. I had a couple of warnings from my ISP. That was a long time ago when it was still the wild west. Now I have a YouTube premium account and love the speed, better video quality and selection it affords me both on my PC and cel tel without ads.

+1

It’s the internet that’s makes the difference.
When you where a kid ( if your older like me ) you copied your friends LP to a cassette tape :) , you had 5 good friends. Not a big deal and you could not afford that much vinyl anyway so no one lost a customer.

But with the internet you have one million friends online and all reasonable arguments fails by then .
And the digital copies are perfect, the cassette was a terrible format but we where happy anyway.

Memories my dad had the best tape deck in our friend group so we taped at my house ( later I got a better Hifi myself I bought for money I made in the summer )

I don't like paying for digital music since you don't actually own it. I have lost access to several downloads that were revoked on 7digital. And streaming sucks for other reasons.

Hi everyone,
Where can I download good quality music for free?
I think people like that are great.
You are probably one of those people who work completely for free. Your boss will definitely appreciate your efforts. And you are definitely grateful to your boss for rewarding you with a thank you instead of a salary.
Music production costs money and not only studios and producers have to be paid, but also the musicians. If no money is made with it, there is no money for new music productions. It's good that there are other people who pay for it.
But maybe that's just my opinion.

But finally a tip for you. Almost every Hi-Res label has free downloads to sample, just search for them.

Russian torrent sites?

Are you a troll, or just gormless?
Not torrents, specialised site's but I won't go into how to use them and there is a catch to it. If you expect me to pay for materials that I already owned (on different physical media) from authors that aren't with us for a long time now which I also consider as national cultural heritage to a money grabbing trolls then think again. I respect those authors, support younger ones going to live gigs and disrespect copy cat's that do real intellectual theft and would never support such in any way (a lot of that this day's).

If you already own the music on physical media why don't you just rip it onto digital then?

Part of it; got lost, demaged, stolen... had most of it digitalis and then again I lost server (HDD). Anyway it's not that simple, it never is. Imagine world get striped out of classical music from old composers because some troll supposedly menages to get copyright for it somehow. I think wars would brake lose because of it. Of course when you perform such a peace you do it as tribute and with respect and mention of author. Copyright should be for the lifetime of author or label owner and in some cases it is regulated like that by low not infinite or forever. Then there are so called authors who do interpretation of their own or adaptation or just a pure copy for commercial purposes (making money from it) without any respect or mention of original author. Some even made very successful and rich carrier doing so. Such should be publicly ashamed and sanctioned for doing so. If something represents cultural heritage of some people it cannot be owned by individual, subject or state similar like natural goods. Sometimes it's defined by low and sometimes it's not. Lost of such has a negative impact regarding given culture. And so on.

I am expensed from my credit card $13.64 each month for the YouTube Premium Account experience. No ads at all, fast downloads, better video quality and it's good at both my cel tel and my desktop PCs. I tried going with ads again and it was reallly annoying. :D
