The Philharmonic’s are half the price. Play Lower. Any chance you think they are going to be worth the huge price difference?

Dispersion pattern is different; Philharmonics are very wide horizontally, narrow vertically.

The Philharmonic speakers are a great value, but they are wide dispersion speakers....they have " air" and instrument separation better than most... If you like that presentation they're hard to beat... If you want narrower dispersion the arendal's may be more your style..

The Arendal is tuned for less low bass and has a ton of woofer surface area. Easy to guess which one can do 100 dB+ comfortably. I personally don’t value that but for some people the BMR tower will be SPL limited. An F6 of 26 hz for the Arendal is still full range in most rooms.

My next pair will be BMR Towers in Satin Walnut.

In which cases would you want narrower dispersion? Is it only for rooms with lots of reflections and hard surfaces?

or smaller rooms in some cases, some people like narrower dispersion though( not me so i can't explain it)....

Narrow dispersion can result in more precise imaging, for those who care about that.

I didn't want to point that out (because I personally like wider dispersion), but yes that's often very true , although the bmr monitor ( the only bmr's i've heard) images very well.... Dennis Murphy builds very good speakers, generally less expensive than similarly performing speakers...

Go listen to the Revel F228Be. If you can get a new pair for $6,000 on sale - it's an exceptional value. They beat my BMR Towers by a mile for engaging, rhythmic music. BMR Towers are great for Orchestra music. They make you feel like you're right there in the concert hall but they don't have the punch of the Revel F228Be. I enjoy playing lots of Jazz and fusion music and that's where the Revels are much more exciting to listen too.

I was wondering about that .. I heard f36's ( the sales kid played them too loud and caused the tweeter to get somewhat offensive)... they sounded like they might be pretty good with rock and jazz, my JBL 530's sound good with some livelier stuff , I keep them around because they kick the crap out of any other sub $300 speakers i've heard ( excluding my Dennis Murphy modded emotiva b1's)... another thing i'd like to do is a/b my infinity crescendo's (1994-ish, 3 way large books with the emit tweeter) against bmr monitors and revel m106 type speakers, they are a step up in clarity and punch from either the b1's (but not by much) and the 530's ...

Personally, I prefer my BMR Monitors quite a bit more than my Revel M105. The BMR Monitor offers an amazing full bodied sound that makes the Revel M105 sound weak in comparison. The Revel M105 has been relegated to surround duty while the BMR Monitors offer stereo duty in my office.

I have never heard Arendal speakers, but have been tempted. I can tell you that Philharmonic makes incredible speakers at an unbelievable price point. I absolutely love my streamline HTs. Are the Arendals or the Revels better? No idea, but are they twice as good, that I doubt. Try and listen to all three if you can. AVS has an active Philharmonic forum and many are willing to have people come and listen or even bring their speakers to people's homes!

i get that ,i have the feeling after talking to Dennis that the smaller revels (pretty much any book in their lower end stuff) really won't be very much of an upgrade over the mods and quite possibly not any upgrade over the infinity's....
