I quite like them, but they are seriously massive... I understand why she said they had to go.

No, but they are used in more of a pro audio environment so they're always using measurements and DSP to flatten the frequency response. They often use them with their "Immersive" technology which is surround sound or dolby on steroids. Wildly good stuff, but also really expensive. If you've seen a live concert in the last 20 years then you probably heard some L-Acoustics speakers.
