Greetings,

I am wanting to get back into PC gaming. Namely Hell Let Loose and Battlefield V games specifically to start. Did some upgrades to my PC and that brings me to sound. Thought maybe I could pick up a bluetooth headset cheap and get by with that. Bought a Logitech G435 last night and the sound is simply awful... Wow! is it bad! Returning it today.

I could invest into a better headset. ( I need a mic for comms) or can I use one of my many headphones and add on a mic somehow? I am using a Schiit Jotunheim amp so a mic would have to USB or a bluetooth connection. Would this work in game? Two different connections for in and out?

Hate to spend good money for a headset when I have great headphones and sound already. Thinking a headset would have to cost a pretty penny for me to be satisfied soundwise.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Antlion Audio ModMic.
Comes in 3.5mm, USB, and wireless connectivity.
All three would work for your use case.

Yes. You can use separate audio devices for input and output, in all games.

I use Bluetooth for music listening on my telephone and they sound fantastic. You might have bought a bad model.

The Schiit Fula and Hel are both great, simple options for a dac/amp/mic combo. If you use IEMs, the Kinera Gramr gives a pretty decent boom mic for .78mm iems.

FYI related to your topic: play at discount and give to charity at the same time. Check out the Bundles.

Bluetooth for music listening has good codecs, bluetooth for bidirectional audio uses garbage codecs.
I have bi-directional 24 bit Bluetooth on my Samsung Buds2 Pro earbuds. They have excellent sound both ways. Perhaps a newer Bluetooth version can compete? (Bluetooth 5.3 is available and LE Audio will be available later this year.)

Are you saying they have excellent sound quality while the mic is in use? The hi-fi Bluetooth codecs aren't bidirectional, so bluetooth devices have to switch to worse codecs when the mic is in use

My suggestion is to get a good set of headphones and a desktop USB mic. You'll get better microphone performance, and better headphone performance, than with an integrated unit.

If you already have good headphones, just add something like this which is going to be better than a headset mic, or something like a Yeti is going to be orders of magnitude better.

I and a friend who I game with regularly both use separate USB desktop mics and headphones and it works fine with Discord, which is what we use for most things, and works in games that have integrated voice chat as well, no issues.

I tested the mic operation with my landline voice tel message and the sound quality is into the very good zone. Finding deep specs on this stuff is seemingly impossible.

IDK what the mic sounded like but the headphone sounded like dogs**t. Maybe a bad sample but its going back.

AWESOME! That's exactly what I was wondering. Been so long out of the gaming world. Used to have an onboard sound card so this was fairly simple back in the day.

Thats a great price on that first one. Reviews say really good sound quality as well.

I bought something simular but not as large, with a gooseneck. Im sure the above mics are great but they are a bit to big. will block my monitor.

Thanks to everyone for the helpful advice!

I bought three of these, excellent quality and $20 with free shipping:
It's got a directional setting to point towards you and not the whole room.

Short of that, I have several lavalier (lapel) mics I got with an extension cable for like $4-$5 and they just clip on and go to your onboard sound mic input. Its phone call quality, the Bumblebee II is really top quality and just uses a USB port.
