Can the Sony AN1000 run 5 x Monitor Audio platinum PL300 speakers? They have a sensitivity of 90db.

The reason is that I had the x3800h and it was great with the pl300. When you google an1000 vs x3800h, it seems that the an1000 sounds better.

Why would it sound better? I wouldn't change.

Don't believe what you read!!! ;)

Most modern electronics doesn't have a "sound" (without EQ, etc.) except there is always some noise (hum, hiss or whine in the background) and sometimes it's audible, depending the gain, the sensitivity of your speakers, how close you are to the speakers, and how much acoustic noise there is in the room, etc.

There are two other sound characteristics - Frequency response and distortion. Both are usually better than human hearing unless you over-drive an amplifier into clipping (distortion).

On the other hand, all speakers sound different (mostly frequency response) and room acoustics make a difference.

See Audiophoolery.

I sold the 3800 to get a 4800 but I can't find one. And then the an1000 popped up but it has a very low power output.

Let alone the better dsp/eq options the Denons have. I wouldn't shop for an avr based on someone's assertion of it having a "sound" (except perhaps the particular way the dsp/eq works).

Curious, what were you looking for in the 4800 that the 3800 couldn't provide?

Any avr can "power" the speakers. To what extent would be the question. The amp section in this avr is a bit less than the 3800's but not a huge difference, maybe all of 1 dB.

This a sound better than b thing is absolutely amazing, got people focus, or worry about the wrong thing so easily!

Unfortunately people like you and I can post other reasons for sq difference all we want, people tend to believe what they want to believe. It is much easier to replace an avr for better sound, than to find another way, such as replacing their speakers, or finding contents of better recording quality. So let's just get the avr that "I heard or read that it sounded better than x,y,z ".
